Charlie D

Our boy Charlie started, did not score this weekend as his club went down on the road to Lille 1-0. He was pulled in the 59th min so he had plenty of time to make this:

Charlie Davies - Viva la difference!

Charlie Davies - making it happen, again. No goals this week at home against Monaco but drew a penalty with his super post up moves on a man that's twice his size (well, not really but he was bigger).

He also had some other opps but could not finish. He's starting and getting looks at goal all while grabbing some serious pt. Which is awesome.

After four games, Sochaux is 11th in the table on 6 pts, 2 wins, 0 draws, 2 losses. Next weekend is a FIFA international date so no domestics but the following weekend Sochaux play bottom-feeders Lille. So look for CD to score a hat +1. Bank on it!

Jozy gets first!

Altidore nets first goal for Hull City
26.08.09 Andrew Slevison
Jozy Altidore scored his first goal for Hull City in their 3-1 Carling Cup over Southend United on Tuesday night.
The US international, who is on loan with the Tigers, netted in the 42nd minute with a brilliant 30-yard shot after a free-kick to give his side a 2-0 lead after Tom Carney scored seven minutes into the contest.
Southend’s Franck Moussa got one abck on the stroke of half-time.
Brazilian winger Geovanni did however, manage to extend the Tigers lead eighteen minutes from time to ease any nerves.
Hull boss Phil Brown was excited by Altidore when he spoke after the match.
"The biggest bonus of the night wasn't just the fact some young lads have made their debuts and done well, it was getting 90 minutes out of Jozy Altidore,” Brown said.
"He hit the winning goal and he's probably still suffering from jetlag having arrived on Friday.
"He played a full competitive game - and it was competitive, Southend were no slouches."

BONUS! Clint v Perm from last week.

"You know what they say..."

Looks like it's out of a Nike ad.

The Sharleeeee Daaayvies Show - Week 2

Charlie Davies came in as a second half substitute again and promptly scored twice against the reining French champions Bordeaux over the weekend. His club Sochaux eventually losing the home opener 2-3. Clearly, he's playing with a bit of confidence lately.

“For my first match at the [Stade] Bonal, I could not have expected better,” he told L’Alsace. “I scored two goals against the French champions, although I am disappointed it ended in defeat. “I have plenty of energy to give to my new club. You haven’t seen anything yet.”

Video! Highlights from 1.50 on:

Some good work from him in the box. He's commented how he's learning to use his body against bigger defenders and turn and shoot quickly. He does seem to have a nose for the back of the net.

Will Charlie start this weekend away to Montpellier (2 draws to open)? I sure as hell hope so.

"You're no Brian Ching" must have been echoing through his head, the same head that met the the winning ball last Saturday in Allianz Arena against TuS Koblenz. The knock on Kenny Cooper for a few years now has been his lack luster skill with the head. Where else could Kenny develop his air game better than in the Land of the Rising Head - Germany?

Quickly becoming the darling of Lion supporters throughout Munich, Kenny will need to show he can bring some serious head for the rest of the season if he wants to stay on the radar of U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley. The emergence of Charlie Davies in the U.S. attack and on the world scene, has created a 3-way competition for the "holding striker" position between Brian Ching, Jozy Altidore, and Kenny Cooper. The question is: Who's going to get the damn ball to Charlie? Lions fans think they have the answer ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klu7QMQhMjI
